GARY BERGER, Managing Director

Commencing in 2005 Gary worked as an M&A Advisor at CHAMP Private Equity and, from 2007, as a Director at Ironbridge Capital. In early 2011 he established Novo Capital.

At CHAMP, Gary led a large scale food industry consolidation comprising seven acquisitions to form Food Holdings (Manassen Foods), the largest speciality food distributor in Australia. A majority stake in Manassen was acquired by Bright Foods in 2011, valuing the group at over $500m. At Ironbridge, Gary led a consolidation of drilling and oil & gas well servicing businesses comprising six acquisitions to form Easternwell Group. Transfield Services acquired Easternwell Group in December 2010 for $575m.

Prior to his Private Equity career, Gary had 13 years of senior operational experience since 1991. He has founded two businesses, the first at age 22, and has held roles of Managing Director at Manassen Foods Australia and CEO at Yale Appliance Group, the largest OEM consumer electronics and whitegoods importer in Australia.

Gary has extensive experience in sourcing, negotiating and executing transactions across diverse sectors including Healthcare, Aged Care, Homecare, Industrial Services, Consumer Products, Mining Services, Foodservices, FMCG , Retail, Media, Online and Tourism. In addition to his direct involvement on company boards in his management capacity, he has also represented private equity firms on numerous large-company boards. His unique mix of operational knowledge and extensive transactional experience has seen his advice widely sought after.

Justin leads transaction execution activities at Novo and has extensive experience in transaction management and oversight, financial modelling, due diligence, valuation, structuring, adjustment mechanisms, and the completion process.

Justin has nearly 15 years of experience including over 5 years as a Director in M&A Advisory at Deloitte prior to joining Novo. At Deloitte, Justin led transaction activities across a wide range of sectors including homecare, industrial, tourism, financial services, fintech, technology and mining services.

He previously held corporate finance roles and corporate restructuring roles at Crowe Horwath, Ferrier Hodgson and BDO.

 

JAMES PARKER, Associate

James joined Novo in 2021 and plays a key role in all transaction execution activities. He has had extensive prior experience in financial modelling and analysis, due diligence, transaction management and valuations.

Prior to Novo James has held senior analyst and corporate finance roles in iSentia, Armillary Private Capital and Habit Health.

Elias joined Novo in 2023 and supports all transaction execution activities. He has had four years of prior “Big 4” experience with KPMG where he had extensive involvement in a broad range due diligence, deal advisory and tax advisory across a number of different industries and sectors.

Sophie joined Novo in 2023 after nearly 5 years at Deloitte in New Zealand where she oversaw the finance function for multiple privately held organisation across numerous industries, often in an outsourced CFO capacity. She has extensive experience in financial modelling, analysis, accounting and reporting.
